Before I do a play I say that I hope it's going to be for as short a time as possible but, once you do it, it is a paradoxical pleasure. One evening out of two there are five minutes of a miracle and for those five minutes you want to do it again and again. It's like a drug.

People believe what they want to believe.

I'm a dreadful romantic. No matter what I go through in life, I want to fall in love with a man.

I love doing motion pictures and expect to be as busy as I want to be in them.

I think it's really odd, too, that the public is so privy to how much money the actors make and what movies cost. It seems to me to be beside the point. When I go to a movie I really don't want to think about the money. I want to see the story.

I never take ideas from the headlines. I feel that if a story is good enough, a real story that is, then it's already been covered by the media, and if it's not good enough, why would I want to bother with it?

One way to bring down crime in the state of California and every state in the union is to have an enforceable border. That means let's build that border fence. When people want to come into this country, let's ask them to knock on the front door.

That's the exact concept behind the music: to take that kind of, I guess whatever you want to call it, jazz sensibility - but not have it be about solos.

The musicians that didn't know music could play the best blues. I know that I don't want no musicians who know all about music playin' for me.

Believe that time is going to help you do what you want.

I think that all of us are 5-year-olds and we don't want to be embarrassed in the schoolyard.

Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Establish your priorities and go to work.

And I just want to work with good directors and good people.

It could be my downfall, but I don't think it is - Hollywood is run on perception, and if you stray off the path of what you want to do with your career, it's suicide.

I was just trying out and having some fun. I don't think I'd want to pursue singing as a career; it's an on-the-side thing. It would be great if I could make a career out of it but if I can't, that's OK too.
