I don't think radio is selling records like they used to. They'd hawk the song and hawk the artist and you'd get so excited, you'd stop your car and go into the nearest record store.

You know, the record business is much different than being artist on stage.

It betrays hubris on the part of the artist to think his medium is limiting him, and I think we all recognize this.

In Italy the artist is a god. Now if the artist is a god, the scientist is likewise a god.

For us Africans, literature must serve a purpose: to expose, embarrass, and fight corruption and authoritarianism. It is understandable why the African artist is utilitarian.

No matter what as an artist that's always what you want to do, you want to connect to the audience, you want to be able to send whatever message it is that you're singing about, you want to be able to convey that - and not make them feel - you want them to feel it, you want them to feel what you feel.

I'm not a driven businessman, but a driven artist. I never think about money. Beautiful things make money.
